Rep. Pettersen introduced the Preventing Deep Fake Scams Act (H.R. 1734 in the 119th Congress, also introduced in the 118th Congress as H.R. 5808) with Rep. Mike Flood to establish a task force on AI-generated financial fraud and protect consumers from deepfake bank scams. She is also an original cosponsor of the DEFIANCE Act targeting nonconsensual sexually-explicit deepfake imagery. These bills reflect a consistent stance in favor of legislation against AI deepfakes and synthetic media fraud.
