AI Regulation Philosophy
A candidate's general stance on regulating AI systems.
Rep. Brittany Pettersen (D, CO-07) has positioned herself as an active participant in AI policy, serving on the House-wide bipartisan AI Task Force launched in early 2024 and on the House Financial Services Committee's AI working group. She stated: 'Things like AI create a ton of opportunity, but we have immediate threats on the horizon if we don't get out ahead of it.' She introduced a bipartisan bill with Rep. Flood directing the administration to issue a wide-ranging government report on AI risks, acknowledging 'it's incredibly complicated on how we actually approach this.' She supports targeted regulation in specific areas (financial scams, deepfakes) while maintaining a pragmatic stance overall.
